    Ramlin Trailer Bunkers

I have a 2000 Ramlin Trailer and the bunkers need to to have the carpeting replaced. Is there any aftermarket carpet available? The problem is that the Ramlin requires a 16 foot piece of carpet. Most places sell 12 foot pieces. Or is this another Correct Craft exclusive? Another thought I had was to put some type of soft substrate under the carpeting to soften the wear of the carpeting. The carpet is attached directly to the wood bunker, and I think if there was some soft material, such as a rubber compound, between the carpet and the wood bunker itself, this would prolong the carpet life. However, the rubber compound would have to have a high enough durometer reading, to support the boat, in order to prevent the boat from collapsing the rubber. Your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    RE: Ramlin Trailer Bunkers

I bought 3 rolls of the 12' carpet. Started from the back, then overlapped the seam for the last 4'. I have a 91 Correct Craft trailer and the boat never sits on the last 5' towards the front.

      Carpet

The same indoor/outdoor carpet is available at Home Depot or Lowes. I go to whomever has it in stock. Its availbale on rolls and they cut it to whatever length you need. I use it all the time on my 90 with no problem.
As far as rubber goes. I've thought about the same thing but the problem is its durability and also it could possibly permit the carpet to slide on the bunk as the boat moves over it. The other solution to look into are the plastic bunker strips available from any of the catalog ski suppliers. I have no experience with them but when I rebuild the trailer this winter I intend on doing some research.

        RE: Carpet

Oh my. I JUST encountered this situation two weeks ago! JAG is right that Lowes carrys Daystar Lancer 16oz marine carpet that looks to be identical to what RamLin used on your bunks. I bought 16 linear feet, which was about $65 total. When I stripped off the old bunk carpet, I found a strip of the same carpet underneath, which is what provided the 'padding'. Took me about 2 hours to pull the old bunk carpet off, pull all the staples, cut the new carpet and staple it on.

Oh, and be careful launching after you put on the new carpet!! Mine slid RIGHT OFF with no power when the trailer fenders were submerged, so I've had to change my launch sequence to unfasten the turnbuckle with trailer a little higher out of the water, THEN backing it in a little more.

        Hope this helps.
