Poll: Difficultly level of PerfectPass install on SS/SAN?

Just wondering what the difficulty level is on self-installing a perfect pass wakeboard or digital pro (i.e., with paddlewheel) is on a v-drive Super Sport or Super Air.

It seems running the cabling and wiring from the helm to the back would be problematic. Plus there is the drilling the 2" hole factor (assumption: no paddlewheel already installed). I'm sure many of the folks here have attempted this self-install and I would like to get some opinions before picking up the unit, and giving it a shot.

An estimate in hours to install would also be helpful. The PP site says 2.5 hours, but I'm doubtful.

I would say a bit more then the 2.5 hours, but it really is very easy and I am not that experienced with this sort of project. I took on the task this spring and also installed a FCT and a ballast system in my boat. The PP was much, much easier of an install then either of the other two. I thought it would be difficult as well, but it was easy. Go for it!

About the same as changing the CD player + drilling one hole.

Just remember when installing the paddlewheel, measure three hundred times, cut once ;-)

Yeah, did it last winter. It was not a biggie. Did it within 3hours with 2 people and it works flawless.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll place the order & give it a go.

One last thing: Are the default instructions for installing the paddle wheel for v-drives correct or did you modify the location? The instructions say in front of the engine, behind the gas tank, about 7-8 inches off center. Just wondering how you gain access to this location without having to rip up the carpet...or do you go down through the engine compartment?

Its an easy proceedure. I did it in my '01 SAN in under 3 hrs solo. Slide out the rear seat, unscrew the large floor peice and you will have plenty of room for installing the paddle wheel. I just so happen to be installing a big fatty system in my new to me '03 and the v-drive area is much easier to get too, just pull the rear seat.

That is a good idea with the magnets. I used a small bit and drilled a pilot hole from the inside and then went under the boat and drilled up with the 2" using the pilot hole.

the placement of the paddlewheel should be right where it says. definitely follow wake_fun's thread it is VERY helpful. I used it to help with my install.

PP just came out with a new display with more data (see attached). I'm definitely conviced to try it now. I got off the phone with M20 Marine (in San Diego), and they said they would even drill the hole for me. Any tricks for fishing the lines from the back to the dash?

Will it work with a late '02 vintage PP Pro?

I think you need to update the firmware to. But that should only be like $40,- .
