My neighbor who owns a tire store, has for 30+ years, told me he thinks the Goodyear marathon, is a great tire. I should also mention that he's not a Goodyear fan. Just so you stick with a trailer tire, you should be fine. Regards!!! Mike / N. Fla.

I have the tow masters on mine, salesman told me they are actually made by Goodyear. I tow 220 miles each way no problems so far and showing zero wear after a year and a couple months.

I had a belt break in my Goodyear Marathon and the local dealer on the way to our lake replaced it at no charge

          RE: Re: trailer tires

I put on Shield trailer tires. They are made by the same company that makes Cooper trailer tires but are cheaper because they don't say Cooper on the side. No problems with them so far. I put load range D tires on even though my trailer had load range C Goodyear Marathons on it. I know a 196 might be under the weight limit of a C but there are so many variables that might push you over that I went with D's this time. My tire guy told me to run them at 60 psi instead of 65 psi because they would dissipate heat better at 60 psi. I'm going with what he told me and so far these are the best tires I've had.

          I have a 1997 196 on a single axle prestige trailer.

I have goodyear Eagle GT II's on mine - car radials. They have been great on my tandem but I wouldn't put car tires on a single axle...

Great tire, got 'em on my F150. They wear great, but
M3Fan is right, not on a single axle. Regards to ALL!

                Trailer Tires

I have Goodyear Marathons on my single axle trailer and Tow Master II (aka Greenball) on my tandem trailer. Both tires perform exceptionally well. The Tow Master tiresare significantly cheaper than the Goodyear tires, so I will be going with Tow Master exclusively in the future.

I have said in the past, and will say in the future, I will only get Cooper Radial II tires for my trailers if I have a choice. I had a blowout of a stock tire (Titan radial) and had to get a replacement and the only available was a goodyear marathon, and they look to be near as good as the cooper, but for my money I am going with the cooper due to bast experiance.

                    RE: Trailer Tires

Hi guys, since there are no trailers available for sale here, hence no tires ( in Malaysia) , we usually replace our trailer tires with normal car/truck types. Whether these are suitable, we have no clue.So i need to ask anyone out there what are the effects, safety, usability etc in my case when i have a ramlin single axle( export specs) under my 03 Super Air.
If normal car/truck tires are ok , then what of the tire pressure? Thanks

                      RE: Trailer Tires

The problem with regular car tires on trailers is two fold. First, they usually do not have a sufficient load rating. With a single axle trailer, you are probably pretty close to the max load on your two tires which will make them run hot and potentially blow out. The second issue is the sidewall ply's on trailer tires are typically at least 6 ply which makes them more stable/rigid and have less roll as you corner. Most car tires are only 2 or 4 ply and thus roll alot going around corners. The bigger the tire, the higher the load rating so if you have to use car tires, make sure the load rating is sufficient. Good luck.

yeah, i second that!!! i was driving home from SECC with our boat and i saw black rubber fly from the wheel well out of the corner of my eye. i drove about 30 the rest of the way home and you should have seen the tire! my husband just about freaked! i'm suprised i even made home! it looked like i was riding on a bike inner-tube! when we went to get new tires we found out that these tires were put on in 1985 and were car tires. hmmmm. you'd think that we'd be smart enough to check out the shape of the tires if we were going to be lugging the dang thing cross town every other week to get it fixed!!!
