Hey Guys!! Once again in advance, you're the best and thanks for your time.
On the valve cover of my 80SN 351 Ford, is a decal w/ several specs from Commander, the out-of-business company that marinized her 25 years ago.
It states, and I quote; "Gasoline Grade, Regular 94 Octane Leaded or Low Lead". This is my 1st boat, and have only had it a few months, so no tellin' what's been put in it the last quarter-century. To my knowledge, engine has never been rebuilt (@ 660 hours), so it's still got the original "guts" that were designed to use Leaded fuel, although whatever wear/tear or break-in from using or not using Leaded Gasoline (or a Lead Additive) has long since past.
Talked to somebody at SkiDIM who said he has an '81, and just puts Unleaded 87 Octane (the cheapest stuff) w/o any problems, no Lead-Substitute. Pretty hard to argue w/ what the original manufacturer recommends though.
Question; should I be adding a Lead additive/substitute, in addition to using the highest octane rated fuel (93 in my area) ??
