Tried that already. Unfortunately, same result. The SN lid is just too heavy. The NAPA autopart equivelant lasted three months then gave out.
That puzzles me. The rear hatch on my wifes 98 expedition weighs more than the lid on your SAN and it has not failed. What makes the CC application so much worse???

If you keep the glovebox/storage compartment open whenever the boat is not in use the gas springs last much longer. That way they are not in the compressed (and stressed) position. The non-use time of the boat accounts for 90% of its life so that means the springs are not compressed most of the time.
The same is true for all of the other compartments that use gas springs. I discovered this after I replaced the first set of springs on my ’92. On my ’97 and now my ’04 I haven’t had to replace any of the gas springs. I’ve been fortunate to always have indoor storage so I’ve been able to keep the compartments open between uses and during winter storage.
I know this is an old thread but it's that time of year again... Time for the annual replacement of the lift strut on my glove box.
Has anybody come up with anything else to consider? I am actually considering building a lighter replacement cover for the glove box. I am tired of getting my fingers slammed after messing with the radio.
This is such a poor design, I cannot believe they continue to do this, arrrghhh.
If anybody has an online source and part number please provide a link.
Yeah...that would be preferred but they want $11 to ship a $13 glove box lift. And I have to deal with this each year. Soooooo...I'm gonna look at some cheaper alternatives.

I think I have an extra one for my glove box on my 04 - 210... PM me your address if you’ll pay the shipping I’ll send it your way.

That's when you throw a t shirt into your order. Then the shipping doesn't feel so bad. Don't forget your PND coupon code too!
OK. The $11 for two Amazon cabinet lifts work. They are maybe 3/8 of an inch shorter than Springlift and don't look quite a burly in the build department. But they clip right on and hold the box door up fine. And since I can't seem to get a springlift one to last more than a year, I'm willing to give these a try.
The springlift is on top, the el-cheap cabinet lift on the bottom.
These lifts from Amazon are replacements for the 20" extended / 12" compressed / 150lb lifts. Typically used on the 206 with tournament seat option. US made. $25 for 2.
