SAN - Spring Lift gas spring ?

Does anyone know where i can buy a new SpringLift gas spring (gas strut) for my storage compartment/ice box for my 2000 SAN ? It is 7.5 inches extended, and 5 incehs compressed. I would need the proper composite ends. Any ideas ?

I purchased one for my glovebox from www.boatus.com. Here is a link to the gas springs. Just match the number from the spring to the numbers on this link.

        Gas spring

Correct Craft uses #3193 for that gas shock, and should be available from any Nautique dealer.

You can also get them from McMaster Carr (www.mcmaster.com). They have a wide vareity, they seem to be cheaper and they will ship them right to your door.

I wonder if the 40lb model would be better than the 20lb that is stock ?

No do not put a stronger on on it could rip the mount off the cooler lid or it could be very difficult to shut the lid.

Has anyone figured out a more permanent fix than replacing the springlift every year?
For some reason, they just don't last very long and it's very painful when that heavy lid catches your fingers!
I was hopeful that Nautique would come up with a different design than on my 1997 and I could retro-fit my boat. But I skied behind a 2005 in December and it has the same problem -- the glovebox lid won't stay open! I've gotten to the point of buying two gas springlifts every season and keeping a spare in the boat, because you never know when the current one is going to go out.

I'm all for a replacement, too! How many people use that "cooler" for keeping stuff cold, anyway? The door is a menace and it cost me a thumbnail a couple years ago.

The CC replacement shock (Atwood, I believe) only seems to be designed to keep the door in the open position, since when the door starts closing it slams HARD even with a brand new shock. I'd love to find one that made it close easier. Even better, if someone would make a lightweight plastic mold of the door and sell them, I'd prolly plunk down $100 for one!

You may want to take it to your local NAPA dealer. Seems they would be able to locate one from an automotive app. ie. rear glass hatch on a suv?????

An option might be to add a second springlift. All it would take is the hardware for mounting.

My thoughts too, take it into your local auto parts store and I would have to believe they could match it up!

I don't have my boat handy, but what material is the door made out of? Seems I remember it being wood with a laminate around it??

Tried that already. Unfortunately, same result. The SN lid is just too heavy. The NAPA autopart equivelant lasted three months then gave out.

I read on a separate waterski usenet list several years ago that someone tried that, but it still wouldn't hold the lid open even with two spring lifts.
