And the Oil pressure gauge falls silent.

Yesterday I took the boat out for the first time in a few weeks, and I'm thinking she might have separation issues because this is the longest I've been away from her since taking delivery. Anyways I was just idling out to the middle of the lake, just to give it a quick run since all my crew bailed on me this weekend. Take a quick scan of the gauges, oh that's fun, no oil pressure. So I freaked out boat still idling along and killed it. Looked in the engine bay to make sure that she hadn't just dumped all 5 quarts of her motor oil into the bilge. After establishing that the boat had oil in it I remembered that I could use the Tachometer to give me a readout. Go to start the boat... Oh that's fun, the starter isn't budging. Then I smacked myself in the forehead noticing that I had left the boat in gear, thus it wouldn't start. Once it was back in neutral it started just fine.

Anyways, my oil pressure is just peachy, my gauge however is dead. As in not even the back light turning on when I have the navigation lights on. I took the dash apart and the connections to the gauge were solid. Is it possible that my gauge just randomly failed? Any troubleshooting tips?

Boy was I glad to have multifunction gauges. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

    Thanks,
    Richard

RE: And the Oil pressure gauge falls silent.

sounds like your gauge failed. Just get a new one from the dealership and swap them out. You would have had a message flashing in the tach or speedo about no oil pressure if you would have lost the pressure completely.

      Check the ground wire.

Isn't that the worst feeling in your stomace to see no oil pressure, then when you try to start it nothing happens?

        Glad everything is ok!

Had something similar happen to me. Cruising at just under 4000 RPM down the lake and I happen to glance at the OP gauge and it's very very low. I almost started screaming "bail out, she's gonna blow" whilst holding back nausea. From driving an 92' sport with suspect gauges for a couple years, I had an automatic reaction and knocked on the gauge, the needle went up to normal. My sensible self took over then and realizerd I would be hearing or seeing the alarm go off. This is in an 02, and the lcd gauges are starting to fritz as well.

Good luck with all that. I am just hoping it's a loose or corroded wire that needs a little bit of attention.

Dragon.... had the same problem with the OP, the Fuel and the Temp guage this summer on my new 211. The Marina ordered replacements and I questioned them on whether that was the real problem. It goes in next week for winterizing and they'll check them again... I'm guessing they'll go ahead and replace the "bad" guages and I'll figure it out again next season.... thank God for 5 yr warranties!
