Hello, I'm trying to remove my prop on my 89 ski nautique. I don't have a prop puller, is there any other way to remove one. If not how much is a prop puller.
On my 81 I can take the codder pin out, then take the nut off, then tap on the base of the prop where it meets the shaft with a rubber mallet. Do it gently... not sure about your 89. You might have to have a puller for that.
If you do try it with a rubber mallet, you might get a board and wedge it up on the prop and hit the wood so you could get a little more even force.

That is pretty much how I do it. Since I take it off only when it needs repair, I am not too worried about damage to it. I use a rubber coated dead blow hammer.
They will always be eaiser to remove if you lap them when you install them. I removed mine this weekend and just had to wiggle it for a bit after removing nut. Heat will help you to remove it too.
I dont think you want to do more than tap w/ the hammer as it's still attached to shaft therefore the trans too.
I removed my original prop from my 89 for the first time this summer. I was very glad I had a puller. I suggest you leave the lock nut on very loose so that when the prop releases, it doesn't hit the ground or fall into the lake.
What prop are you putting on? I put an acme 612 on mine, I haven't seen the improved performance that I wanted. I may try a little more cup.
