    Fog the Engine?

About to winterize my boat tomorrow, how important is it to fog the engine? I know a lot of people that don't do it, but the manual says to. What are your opinions on the benefits, or lack of, to fogging.

You have to winterize in Texas? I will trade ya for a Iowa winter
I removed the spark arrestor and sprayed some in till it started running kinda crappy then shut it off - that should be good enough.
I would say it is probably a good idea. Just to keep everything lubed up and the seals from drying out.
I put mine up last week and am missing it already, it will be a long winter for us.

      Fyerfytr,
I'm moving to Montana next week, will be towing the boat up behind the Uhaul, that's why I'm winterizing. Thanks for the input, I guess I'll fog it.

On my '91, with the carb, I remove the spark arrestor and spray it in like fyerfytr said. On the '91 and the '96 I remove the spark plugs and spray some fogging oil into each cylinder, then I replace the spark plugs, but not the wires, and give her a couple of cranks to get the cylinder walls nice and coated.

I don't remember the specifics but I recall a post or two about the GT40 being a dry intake and having stainless valves and such, and that fogging wasn't necessary/reccommended. Again, it just rings a bell in memory- don't know the specifics- EFI is not my specialty!

Your manual says to fog your GT40? Interesting, as mine says not to. Well, the winterizing instructions say to fog the cylinders individually and crank the engine by hand. There were a few threads on this but I think the bottom line was fogging a multiport fuel injected engine usually isn't recommended.

That being said, I think earlier GT40's were TBI?

I've never fogged my EFI engines. I add fuel stabilizer to the tank and run the engine. Change the oil while it's warm and run it again to circulate the fresh oil. Then I drain the block and pull the raw water impeller. Fill the block up with non-toxic antifreeze and water and wait for spring.

The GT-40 intake is considered dry by PCM. Something about a MAP sensor that doesn't react well to fogging oil. On my Excalibur, the manual says to remove the spark arrestor and fog the motor by spraying into the intake. That makes it easy.

I hate to winterize my boat. Kind of depressing. Our winter is going to be long here as well.
