    Ballast Pumps not Working II

So..the ballast pumps (standard atwood areator pumps) in my '99 air stopped working a while back. Took both apart, made sure they weren't clogged and could spin easily, replaced the fuse and they worked fine again.

Hit the lake today, filled tanks fine, emptied the tanks fine...after the tanks were drained, the pumps may have ran dry for, at the most, a couple of minutes and the fuse blew again.

Over the years, the pumps have been left on to drain an empty tank, accidently, for a alot longer than that with no problems, so I assume thats not the issue.

Any idea what the problem might be? Should I just replace both pumps and the fuse and hope it fixes it? Is there something else that might cause the fuse to overload?

The ballast pumps normally only draw 4 to 5 amps but it can surge to 8 amps on startup of the pumps. I would prefer to use a breaker instead of a fuse as it does not react too quickly like a fuse can react unless it is a sloblow version that are availible at radio shack or other stores like it. But you may need new pumps because they might be getting ready to quit altoghter on you.
