RE: Winterizing today, have a few questions.

The trans cooler on a v-drive is on the starboard side under the motormount and it has two big hoses, one at each end and two smaller hoses coming out of the side of it. Just pull of one of the big hoses to drain the water.

Dragon88, sorry I'm a little late here. All good advice. If you have the Excalibur motor, your manual should tell you to fog the motor through the intake. The GM motor is unlike the GT-40 where PCM recommended against spraying oil into the intake. On the heater, I've set up two ball valves with drains on the down stream side of the valve. I close the valves and use compressed air to softly blow the water out of the drain. Works fine. A better idea is to use AN fittings with barbed ends. These, unlike most quick disconnect fittings, are rated for hot water and will not leak after a time. Most quick disconnect fittings are not hot water rated and pinch down the ID of the heater hose perhaps causing an unwanted restriction. Go to any good speed shop and get the AN fittings. They look cool too.

Your trans cooler should have a drain. Mine does. I pulled the drain the other day and no water came out--btw.

Dragon - you mentioned earlier that you are 6 hours away from your dealer. NW Ski and Wake in Portland is just a couple of hours up I-5 from Eugene - http://www.nwski.com/. Unlike you, I am not real handy with a wrench and they have done a great job of servicing my CC for the past 5 years.

RE: Winterizing today, have a few questions.

how cold does it get in oregon?
I just cleaned to boat up, then turned on the shower pump, and sucked all the water out of the block. When the shower ran dry, I figure there's little to no water left in the block.

            how's that?

RE: Winterizing today, have a few questions.

              Hey Henry.

I was in Hillsboro Oregon yesterday, just outside Portland. It was 18 degrees overnight,
and never got above 40 during the day. If you live toward the mountain, it gets colder.
Mt. Hood is actually a glacier on top, so it never thaws up there. Short answer, it can
              get cold enough.

Where you live in CA, probably not a problem. If we get an extended cold period, which
we do every several years, you should know its coming, and be able to stick a heater
              in the boat.
