Do i need to 'run in' a rebuilt engine?

I have a Chevy 454 in a 1980 Barefoot and am having to have it completely rebuilt over the winter. Every thing that can be done is being done so in effect I will be getting back as close to a new engine as you can with a reconditioned one.
So my question is will I need to run in the engine like you would if it was new?

Yessir, if you're doing a true motor rebuild you'll be needing to seat the new piston rings.
    How about \"Chales\"?

I hope you are getting new rings and crank bearings. If so then you need to treat it as a new motor, maybe even more so than a brand new motor.

I think so, all I have said to the dealer is do everything possible as the parts are not that expensive compared to the labour charge to take the engine in and out so while it’s out I figured it may as well all be done even if there is no major sing of wear.

If I were you'd I'd get a detailed to, or from the dealer, or whoever is going to do the work as to what exactly you want, and what exactly they are doing.

I can forsee some problems if you just say, fix everything that can be. There could be a lot of different opinions as far as what "needs" or "can" be done.

Like I said, I'd make a list of exactly what all you want done. Or at least something like: Rebuild engine with: new pistons, rings, crank, ect. At least the big stuff.

              Good idea.

Then after you see the 2, give him a list of what you decided would be done.

              hehe
