    2003 Flight Clips installation

Hi. I havent installed my flight clips on my 03 SANTE as i was never keen to drill into the tower( silly system) Having said this , i have decided to drill and installthem instead of letting them sit around the house.
I have misplaced those instructions, pertaining to the distance/measurement and placement of these racks.
Can some one furnish me with this?I wouldnt want to drill wrongly.
    Thanks

    Aaron,

I would opt to pick up some mounting brackets from CC, no drilling required and you can space them as you want.

The 2004-2005 FlightClips already comes standard with mounting brackets. I think you can order them directly at your dealer.

Aaron, Measure twice (or more), drill once. Clamp or hold the flite clips on the tower where you want them, maybe a friend can help, and make sure your wakeboards fit into the flight clips. The wake board sits on the inside with the toe side edge down, one binding in front of the round tube on the front of your tower. The other binding sits approxatemaly in between the two round tower tubes. The boat I have outside has the following measurements, on the top of the flat bar that goes between the two round tubes. From the inside edge of the weld radius where the front round tube is welded the flat bar, to the front edge of the first flight clip is 2 1/2 inches (63.5 mm). the bar on the flite clip is 2 inches wide, so the holes are another inch aft of the 2 1/2 measurement, so mark a line perpendicular on the tower bar 3 1/2 inches back from the weld radius (89 mm). the front edge of the aft fliteclip is 12 1/2 inches (317.5 mm) back from the weld radius, so the marked line needs to be 13 1/2 inches. (343 mm) The two two holes need to be equal above and below the horizontial centerline on the bar they are mounted to. The outside holes are 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) the inside holes are 3/4 inch (19mm). Once again, measure twice, and make sure everything is where you want it before you start drilling. The dealer usually has a metal template that you just set on the bar, and next to the radius weld, so if your draler is close by, you might be able to borrow thier template to mark your bar. The screws go through the flight clips, through a wide aluminium washer, and into the small holes om the outside of the bar. I then took a 7/16 deep socket, dropped one locknut into it, and carefully taped a 1/4 washer on the end of the socket. The socket, nut, and washer combination was then carefully put in the large hole on the inside of the flight control tower and started on the screw from the outside, holding the flight clip. Start both screws before you tighten one. install the second flite clip in the same manner. If your screws have a Phillips head on them, you will need to get an offset #3 phillips screwdriver. Hope you got allen screws. In either case, tighten the screws by turning the nut, and not the screw head, just use the offest phillips, or allen wrench to hold the screw from turning. Do not use a power driver to run the nuts down, sometimes the stainless screws and nuts bind up on each other. A little grease on the screws will also help with this problem. The large holes on the inside of the tower are plugged with black plastic caps. A little RTV silicone on the edge of the cap will glue it in place, and hold it better.

Does anybody know where you can get hold of the mounting brackets. One cc dealer told me you couldn't buy the brackets seperately.

I have seen a few posts for oval clamps here and on e-bay from time to time. Check with wakejunky, he might know an aftermarket source for some oval bar clamps? Check with Mid Ohio or White Lake, your dealer might not want to deal with the specialty parts but they are probably available.

The "drill-your-tower" idiocy that CC embraced several years ago after finallly entering the board rack selling space at a time when the company was obviously relying on an after market, now defunct company known at CCC to make racks to fit the post-'00 FCTs has been recently upstaged in an insidious way by CC's Flight Clip offering on the new new '06 FCT. The '06 Clips come with no seemingly expensive aluminum brackets (i.e., it's the same as '05 w/o cool looking hardware), but people are expected to pay the same money ($800 or so) for chincy bolt-on racks (no drilling) that only hold ONE board each, unless you can live with the noise racket of a second wakeboard banging on the tower in the inner slot and your wakeboard's fiberglass getting ripped up miserably by the protruding bolt and lock nut hardare.

Lastly, there continues to be no evidence that CC has addressed this dog-pees-on-the-carpet problem that the comany had their noses rubbed in months ago immediatley after '06 model year boats were delivered with new towers and differently designed racks.
