    Hummingbird Air/Water Temp Gauge

Anyone have experience replacing the water temp sender? Hummingbird wants $45 for a new sender. The sender is pictured below. It reads hot when the boat is off as the warm water from the engine flows out of the water pick up. I am thinking that the sender is not suppose to be exposed to 140 degrees.

to my knowledge it iss a compression fitting that the sensor is mounted in to but you may have to use caulking like 3m 4200 or something similar.
