    RE: prop repair

I also was told that CNC props cannot effectively be repaired. However, I have also been told, by another repair shop, that repairing is an art form and that the slightest changes on the prop edge can make dramatic differences in performance. This person also told me that if it doesn't make the boat shudder or there is a destinct drop in performance, one is probably better off to leave the prop alone and use it as a spare.

      RE: prop repair

One thing I want to clarify from my previous post. A good prop repair person can make your prop better than it was out of the factory. This can only happen when you give the vital information as mentioned in my previous post.

I'm against running stainless on inboard. Two reasons similar metals and impact results (costs). If you run stainless on a stainless shaft and your prop stays on the boat for a couple years don't be surprised if you cannot get it off. I'm not saying you won't be able to but if the two metals bond together as they will eventually you will pay a big price to have it removed. The flat rate manual states two hour for this procedure and that's providing the prop will break loose. If that does not work the next alternative is to cut the prop off or cut the shaft. Now we are talking big bucks.

I'm always surprised when people including myself try to out think the builder. They have reasons for using the products they use on their boats and 99% of the time they are right. I'm posting two pictures of damaged caused by an SS prop on a 92 SN. This gentleman that owned this boat is a barefooter and wanted the extra speed SS prop was going to provide. He was barefooting over the same part of the lake he makes his runs on every morning and boom a bottom tear out at 41 mph. If we would have been running Nibral he would of had damage but not to this extent.

He tore the shaft log out and everything else. When we repaired this boat we had to strip the underwater gear off a 94 SN and make a mold so we could reapir this boat. The entire bottom had to be re-layed.

I thought you guys might be interested in this. BTW the SS prop that tore the tranny in half only had one blade damaged.
