    Battery Charging Question

I know there has been some discussion about charging batteries, but I didn't see this issue addressed. My apologies if I missed it.

I have an SV211 with dual batteries. When I hook up the trickle charger, in which position should the battery selector be? Can I charge both batteries by hooking up to just one battery or is it best to leave the selector to off or to the charging battery? I need some help here and would appreciate your experience.

    Thanks.

    RE: Battery Charging Question

If the charger is rated for multi batteries you can go to both with one battery hooked up and keep em both topped up....
if they are identical batteries you will probably get away with it, even if the charger is not multi battery rated... (slight possibility it could cook the charger or batteries ) be sure and check the water level every month or two...

Thanks for the link to the other battery charging thread.

The bottom line: Is it safe and efficacious to attach a 1.5 amp charger to one battery with the battery cables left attached? And if so, will the charger keep both batteries topped off (through the common battery switch) even though the charger is only connected to one battery?

I gather the answer is probably yes... Does anyone disagree?

I have dual batteries as well and have essentially the same question. In my case, I want to use 2 Battery Tenders (use them on my cars) instead of a regular trickle charger. I am assuming the correct way to do this would be to turn the selector switch to any position but "All" to isolate the batteries. Am I right? Do I need two Battery Tenders?

            bringing back to life

Ok so I'm bringing this thread back to life becuase I have the exact same question and setup. I have the factory 2batt and perko 1+2 switch and would like to get a dualpro type onboard charger. My question is can I just get a 10amp single bank charger and hook to 1 battery and when I want to charge or when the boat isn't in use leave the switch set to 1+2 so both batts stay topped off? Now if I get the 2bank charger hooked up what happens if I have the switch set at 1+2, will that damage the charger? Anyone? David?

I don’t know the answer, but I installed a single bank charger in my 03 with dual batteries. I was told a single bank should charge both with both battery switches on. The system does not appear to be working correctly and I have since heard conflicting information. I think I might need to add a combining relay, but not sure.
