NEED ADVICE FOR GT-40 RAW WATER PUMP

Since the pulley of the raw water pump easy get rust(I use the boat in sea), and stratch the belt, and broken a new belt in few days, even the pump still good,I change 2 times the pump, now the third time I need to change,I found a chrome Ford pump in DIM,No.5111,it looks the whole pump coated with chrome, DIM said that can use same with Sherwood raw water pump No. 0601,and the price (chrome) even cheaper the Sherwood,(iron), any body use that chrome raw water pump and how feel? I had try change a alumi. pulley, but the shaft of the pump littlebit too short.

I heard that WD-40 on the pully would keep it from rusting. Don't know if it will cause the belt to slip.

I use WD-40 to quiet my car belts some times... so I dont think slipage will be a problem... clean the pulley up with emry cloth and keep it WD-40ed... you might want to tighten up all your hose clamps and include the front of the engine and bilge area in your fresh water wash down when you flush the engine after each use in salt water (if your not fresh water cooled) IMHO saltwater use requires lots of fresh water wash down after use or you will pay... that chorme pump will not last very long if continously left with salt spray on it or in the bilge... so maybe just bead blast the present pulley, repaint with epoxy paint and keep it rinsed and 40ed .... after every use.
