    Swim Platform Removal

    Hey guys,

Im going to take off my platform for some refinishing and to keep it out of the elements for the next few months.

My question is, should I remove the brackets from the transom or just take the platform off the brackets? Are there backing nuts on the inside of the transom I should worry about?

Easy enough. I was worried about the brackets sticking out and gettting damaged or hurting some one. The boat is in the driveway. So I just screwed on a scrap board the width of the brackets.

      Thanks

Good move. Enjoy your time refinishing. You won't be bored while doing the work because you can dream about how nice it will look on the boat in the spring.

When you put the platform back on, watch to make sure you don't tighten the screws too far in and they stick out on the top. There were 1 or 2 like that on our boat when we got it, but never noticed. You'll know if you find scratches all over your boards/skis.

Hmm, Hollywood, if you use the same screw length and head, I dont see how the screw could go through the other side. Once the screw head hits the countersunk metal it should stop. If you didnt have the clutch set you could strip it out but I dont see the tips coming out the other side. Feel free to enlighten me.

Maybe they weren't the original screws when we got the boat? Just something to think about.

I had the same thing happen to my 81SN when I put the deck back on after refinishing it. I used the orignal screws (stainless steel) and had one of the points stick out on the top side. Didn't realize it till I sat on it and stuck myself out on the lake. I believe the thickness of the teak deck reduces in size after years of use and refinishing. Just be carefull watch out.

Must have been the combination of sanding it down and then tightening the screws enough to make them go through.

Anybody know where I can get replacement cotter pins, for my swim platform, that fit my my '99 .

How about replacement license plate holder specifically for a '02 ramlin trailer...the standard marine trailer replacement doenst work since this one has a light attached to it.
