Early ballast system: will the T-H replacement valves work?

    Hi all,
another of the winter projects, I'm having some trouble with our 99 PAN ballast tanks in that they fill up if I leave the ball valve open on the intake. Will the T-H replacment valves help in the older ballast systems? I believe I read here that the "valves" are nothing more than vent valves, so they don't really "close" the tanks to filling? Is there a way to accomplish keeping the tanks empty with the valve open on the earlier systems?

    thanks,
    Jack

RE: Early ballast system: will the T-H replacement valves wo

I removed factory flapper vent vlvs (vents that run to stern on top of each tank) and installed ball valves on top of each tank... I did replace the orings in the drivers station vent vlvs also (two vents mid ship starboard side)... I have never tried leaving the floor ball vlv (in take) open and run to see if it prevents filling after my mods... as it would fill while running before..... I just fill and close off or drain and close off.... Guess I'll have to give the mods a run sometime and see if it still fills when shut off...
I want to tee off the intake vlv and add a locker tank for this summer...
