Hit a log... bent prop, new prop works fine...

So I just got off the phone with my dealer. I told them I have had some problems with water coming in the bildge after a long riding set. I've noticed after a while water accumulates in the bildge when running but not if it sits in the water overnight. Last summer I hit a log in shasta one morning. It was the last day of our trip so I didn't worry about changing the prop and we just quit using the boat. I idled back to the dock and we headed home. Since then I have changed the prop and have used the boat a few times. I've seen water coming in but can't pinpoint the location since it only really happens while underway.

My question is where could it possibly be coming from? The packing gland? I have an '03 SAN with dripless packing. I don't think the shaft or anything else is bent from my log collision due to the fact that it runs great with my spare prop. The dealer told me I should have them pull the shaft and have it checked for true and all this other stuff. I was hoping they would just adjust the packing since I don't really know how to myself. Should I just suck it up and have them look at the whole deal or try and save some money and go with the packing adjustment only. Any advice?

Do you have a heater in the boat? I know it's not the direction you're looking, but all
three times I've had water coming in like that it has been a heater core failure.

I do have a heater but I also have a fresh water cooling. The heater core gets antifreeze through it. I've definitely got water in the hull. I will probably just suck it up. Better safe than sorry right?

Action, I've never seen a heater installation on a fresh water cooling system, so I'm only thinking out loud here. It is great if the heater taps into the fresh water cooling system. The heater will last a lot longer. But I'm just wondering is the heater by chance tapped into the raw water, heat exchanger side of the system. Come to think of it, did you check the heat exchanger and lines, that's another possible source of raw water intrusion. BKH
