2012 Ski Nautique 200 Winter Project

This is one of our winter projects we have going here at Superior Boat Repair & Sales in Rancho Cordova, Ca. I thought it would be fun to chronicle the restoration of this boat on PN. First a little history about the boat. This 2012 200 CB with a 6.0 450 HP engine was used at Travers Ski School in FL. It has 1091 hours on it. The boat came back to Nautique several months ago and sat covered until I purchased it this fall. The engine needs to be rebuilt. The port exhaust manifold is cracked and water got into the cylinders on the port side. My plan is to make this boat like new and then use this boat as my demo this coming season. I will then sell the boat at the end of the 2015 season. The plan is to rebuild the engine, fix everything that is not working, replace the upholstery, carpet, and restore the gel coat into new condition. Crazy stuff! If you've ever been to Jack's, you'll know that snakes are not exactly rare in that area!

That is what I thought. Hope the snake is not hiding in the boat somewhere.

I ski'd at Swiss last year but luckily did not come across any. Not live ones anyway.

The engine is out and off to the machine shop. We have removed all the carpet. For some reason this master blue and yellow boat was ordered with tan carpet. We will be replacing it with titanium grey. Not much more work will be done with this project until after coming back from our holiday break.

Have you considered gelcoating the floor and adding SeaDek instead of carpet?

I'm planning on putting carpet in to keep the costs down. However, that is a great idea.

Stock rebuild, or a little "something extra"?

I'm considering changing the exterior of the boat. Does any one have any suggestions? I was thinking of adding a wrap where the yellow gel coat is. The new upholstery has been ordered in master's blue, titanium and silver cloud. I did not go with any yellow in the upholstery.

After a break for Christmas and New Year's we are up and running here at SBRS. Since coming back we have replaced the skins on the boat. Attached are "before" and "after" pictures of the work. Please note the new skins do not have any yellow in them. It is my plan to do away with the yellow on the hull of the boat. I'm investigating wrapping the yellow section of the hull. More to come on this!
