Tried searching, as I'm sure this has been answered before. But what engine oil is everyone running? I know the manual calls for 10w40, but how necessary is it to get marine specific? Would any 15w40 (diesel oil) be sufficient? Correct me if im wrong, but to me the "marine" label is just a way to charge more for the product.

As indicated, it is engine dependent and environmental temperature dependent. But Rotella or synthetic Rotella works well for most modern GM based inboard motors. CC recommends high quality synthetics such Mobile One for some engines at certain environmental temps.

I use Mobile 1 15w50 in all my boats the 15w50 has the additives to protect the older flat lifter engines and works great in the newer ones. Remember to change the oil every 50 hours even when using synthetic oil.

At a minimum use conventional 15w40, like Shell Rotella, most will be labeled as "Diesel Oil", no need for a Marine Specific.
If you use synthetic as Mike mentioned above, change intervals should remain at 50hrs
