    Installing a Thru Hull Scoop

I got how and where to drill the hole thru the hull, number of discussion items on the site - one question - when your installing a Thru Hull Scoop / Strainer - do you use a sealant or adhesive ? Like 3m 4200 or something similiar.

I cant remember the brand or type... but there is a very robust sealant to be used for below the water line fittings.... ck any marine supply shop and ask for below the water line sealant...

Use "Life Calk" made by BoatLife. You need some Lacquer thinner, or Acetone to clean up after you are done. Wear some rubber or nitrile gloves to keep it off your fingers. You can use the boat as soon as you are done, it will dry under water.

A lot of folks use 3M 5200. It's talked up quite a bit on the other message boards. Beware though, if you have any notion of removing them after some period of time. I guess that 5200 is pretty permanent.
