i just looked over the manual for the 89 that was posted and it listed exhaust flaps as an option. do they not serve much of a purpose?

The exhaust flap or flaps help reduct the chance water goes back up the exhaust pipe and muffler and gets into the motor. they also make the back of the boat slightly quieter. -
Exhaust flap important!
I had ingore the lost of the flaper,and let water suck to the hot engine and a smoke come out, in a wavier water,(if backward the boat more danger),
Than I paid US4,000 to fix.Comment

thats what i assumed they did, any time i lose one i quickly replace it. just wonderin why it would be an option and not come standard
