Internal Ballast Pumps

Hi there, Just took delivery of our new Super Air 220 last week. We took her out on Saturday for a run and noticed that when you fill and empty the ballast tanks that the pumps dont switch off automatically when the tanks are full or empty. I was wondering if it is possible to do damage to the pumps by forgetting to switch them off?

If you run them dry too long, I guess you could burn them up, but if you leave them filling, all it does is keep spitting water out the overflow. Eventually, I guess they would wear out, but that would take a long time.

the 06 210's have a "white can" under the drivers console where the throttle is and this is supposed to cut the pumps out when you're tanks are empty. Ours was knackered when we got it, however this meant that the tanks wouldnt empty even when chock a block full. But the real risk of burnout would be running the tanks dry as there is no lubrication for the impellor, but if the white can is doing its job this wont happen.

Thanks for your replys guys, I wonder if that "white can" thing is the same on the 220's. I will check it out to see. Unfortunatly the boat is back in storage until the weekend so i wont be able to check until then.
