Question on porthole cap in 2001 SAN ski locker

There may be an obvious answer to this but heres the deal... The big plastic cap into the bilge pump/fuel tank compartment has an o-ring on it indicating it should seal? But yet the 1" hole for water to drain to the bilge pump is open. The 1" is threaded but no plug. Is the ski locker area supposed to be sealed from the fuel tank area? But to me that makes no sense as the front half of the boat wouldn't pump out if it flooded. Boat is new to me Fyi

    Thanks

Nope not supposed to be sealed. Thats just the design of the cap. If it didnt have an oring it would have to be threaded in order to not rattle around. I think the 1" hole has a plasticdrain piece threaded into it, for a clean look.

Got it, I was also thinking it is designed in there to be a baffle. If there is a large amount of water inside the locker it can't immediately slosh one end of the boat to the other and must slowly drain through the 1". With large center locker sacs does anyone run a small diameter pvc pipe under the sac so the bow water can still drain properly to the bilge pump?

No I dont run a PVC pipe, I dont think it would help any with draining water. If you have a full sack the water will be displaced under it and take the easiest path of flow. When you are not on plane or at an angle on the trailer, all the water wont drain out of there anyway.
