I just bought a 1988 Ski Nautique (2001) last summer, I love the boat but it seems too loud. Any advice would be welcome.
thanks in advance for you suggestions.
I saw a efficient solution at our wakeboard school end of October when the boats got ashore.
About a 1/8 to 1/4 section of a car tyre, nice cut. Mounted with a large hoseclamp on the outlet. It bends the gases and the sound towards and partly into the water. Its very flexible so it will save you transom.
Give me feedback if you try.
Check the muffler for any holes. If you find some, they can (and should) be patched with fiberglass.

I'd probably check directly with CC or a nearby dealer to see if they might have a recommendation for mufflers.
I had a '79 Ski Nautique and I remember it rumbled pretty good, but the exhaust never seemed too loud. The engine, on the other hand. I ended up lining the engine box with 1" foam insulation to cut down the noise it made.
I have a 99 nautique and also had a noisy muffler. Problem was not with muffler but with compression of rubber pad which isolated from hull. Muffler was in direct contact with bilge interior and resonated loudly. Also was wearing through muffler and gelcoat of interior hull.
The benefit to the angled end is that the hose connection between exhaust riser and muffler is relatively straight. You will have to position the mufflers slight forward of the current location so the angles clear the floor. This means that you will have to replace the exhaust hose between the muffler and transom with longer sections...so purchase enough.
My friends immediately noticed the improved and pleasing sound over the worn out original mufflers and went out and did the same thing to their mid '80's 2001's. Do not forget to wrap the mufflers with strips of carpeting before installing.
