    High RPM in neutral.

Has anyone ever have an issue when in neutral and having high RPM?

There is a red indicator light that lit up. It say being over 1200 RPM may cause damage.

I'm not sure if its a linkage issue, an adjustment, clogged fuel injector or a throttle position sensor.

Lemme know if you have any suggestions.

Sounds like either a vac leak or a tps sensor going out depending on if it is carb or injected. Spray carb cleaner around intake to check for vac leak

      K2W,

Its a fuel injected GT40. So I assume that the TPS. I read somewhere I can ohm meter it to see if its good. I think they said it should test at 5ohm. Do you know where its located and what it looks like?

The light you are referring to . . . is it the engine warning light or the v-drive warning light? The engine warning light - when lit - indicates high engine temps. The v-drive warning light - when lit - indicates low oil pressure in the v-drive unit. The reference to damage over 1200 RPM is referring to the v-drive due to lack of proper oil pressure.

            K2W, thanks for the pic!

a0128, Yes it is the V drive light. I've read that this light is suppose to stay lite up to 1200 RPM then the light should go off and stay off. Is this correct?

My problem is that when in neutral its up to 1800 RPM and the light is coming back on. Once its in gear it drops down to 1000 RPM and the light goes off.

We tried to keep it in fast idle to keep the RPMs down in-between sets. I hope I didn't damage anything.

            Thanks for all the feedback!

In neutral, I would think that you should be idling around 600 rpm. I would be unhappy shifting into gear at 1200. When idling around, vdrive light is on, throttle up it goes out. The warning is to not be under heavy load with low oil pressure in vdrive.

I took the boat back to the dealer where I bought it from as a consignment last week. The mechanic dude who ran it for me when I bought it said, he must have over adjusted the throttle cable when he installed the new one. He readjusted it on the spot. It took 10 minutes. Its now idling around 900 with a fake lake. He said the rpms will lower a little more in the water.

Ski, you are correct. The V drive oil pressure light stays on in neutral, then it should shut off once the boat has reached 1200 rpm in gear.

I'm stoked to hit the water next weekend and try out my 3 new fat sacs!
