    Rudder seal

What is the correct rudder seal for a 1982 Ski Nautique? I checked skidim.com but I am not sure of what to get or if anything there will work for my boat.

DON'T USE 4200!!! You want Flax packing for around the shaft. I don't know the exact size but your local dealer or SKIDIM can help. I want to say it's 3/8. I like the teflon impregnated flaxYou can dig the old out with tweezers or an old dental instrument or nut pick. Make sure it is all out of the packing nut before replacein with new. Remember when you tighten the nut tighten it just until it doesn'e leak then after about a monthe of use chech it to make sure it isn't leaking. WARNING when you remove the stearing tiller and the packing nut the rudder will fall our. make sure tyou support it underneath and you mark the tiller exactly wher you take it off so the stearing will be the same after you replace it.

I believe the correct size of flax packing is 3/16". You will need about 12" for three individual wraps. Stagger the butted ends 120 degrees apart. The top of the rudder has a square boss, so no need to mark the tiller position as it is fool proof. If you reinstall the tiller arm incorrectly, the rudder will 90 degrees off which is very obvious.

          Otherwise, Rick is spot on.

Thanks David my 66 Baracuda had a splined rudder post and I couldn't remember which boat was square. 3/16 is what i used last time. I checked the package. Bobby if you repack the drive shaft that used 1/4"
