Running boat (with heater) on inboard motor flusher

No nothing was damaged. Well a little bit of my ego. And I lost an hour and a half of my life, never to get back.

This year recommissioning the boat, I could not get it to suck in any water. Went back under the boat made sure gizmo was on. Took of strainer it was dry. yada yada yada.

An hour and half later, I am like, what has changed since last spring? I added a heater. Well the air in the heater lines is to much for the sea water pump to over come and pull water through. So after taking the pump apart, replacing the impeller I toasted. All I had to do was pinch the heater hoses (taking the heater loop out of the equation), and to do that my face is 6 inches from the strainer. Voila I can watch the water get sucked into the strainer into the system, and out the boat.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or am I the only stupid one on the forum. Time to get some shut-offs for the heater....

I am getting ready to undertake the heater install as well on my 08 210. Did you take any photos along the way you can share etc.

Here are some of my pics and stuff. So I used the water out and the wye so not the water return. Also notice that I mounted the unit with the air hoses direct down so the water hoses came around from the left and over, but then the air hoses don't have a bend. I thought I would get a bit better air flow.

Another idea I implemented was an inline strainer. I found the holes corse mesh in the main strainer allowed for small debris to block the tiny hole in the low idle wye. This is what I used and it has a fine mesh filter. It may also prevent anything getting stuck in the core itself. Certainly peace of mind for $10.

I put a heatercraft 340 (twin blower, 4 outlet) in my 08 210 so if you need any ideas/pics of mounting the larger unit just ask.

I got too excited and ran mine on the hose before hitting the water haha so never had you problem.

For those have put in shut offs, what have you used? Pictures or links to product please. I want to add shut offs but I want to be sure to have 5/8 interior not 1/2 inch.

Honestly, you gotta take off the 4 screws holding on the kick panel and get a flashlight. Your question shows you haven't even looked. Which worries me for your sake. Get in there!

I pull mine off a bunch times a season for this or that. If you are concerned about doing so you are so not up for this project.

Honestly you should not worry about me and my ability to complete a heater install. I am not concerned the least bit about it. I have had the panel off numerous times and was trying to relate to how you oriented the core/ blower based on the photo you provided. I do take into consideration the numerous ways (just like the way you asked about the shut off valves etc.) that folks have taken with their installs such as yours and aZ. In any event thanks for the concern and photos.

Scott, curious if you have run the heater yet and if so how is the heat at idle??

Heat at idle is very good, better then my buddy that does not have the wye. Probably not near as good as those with the circulation motor. I would state that when you are out there with 50 degree air and 50 degree water the boat only got to 130 some odd degree which effected the heat performance. Probably about the coldest we have gone at.

Not bad for an oldster on first run of the season though.

Mine is the factory setup with supply/return like in your connections pic, so idle is a bit lame, one of these years I need to add the Y.

Nice job getting out there already, Ice just went out on my lake last week and I have a giant pile of Cedar that needs to be turned into pier sections to expand my existing dock, hitting it hard this weekend and hope to have all the docks and lifts in by next weekend.
