Tips for installing snaps on new bow cover

So my 99 Super Sport came to me with snaps around the bow from the factory but no bow cover as the PO lost it. Thanks to a member here I just purchased a bow cover that does not have any snaps punched into it. This is ideal for me since I can add them myself and make they match what is already on my boat. I am planning to use one of those snap plier tools that most marine places stock. My question is does anybody have any tips for aligning the snaps and getting everything to fit right? One thing I am wondering is if I should do a snap in each corner and pull it tight? Then fill in the other ones once I know I have those corners right? Do I need to leave some slack between these corners to allow for the snaps that go in between? I don't want to screw this up so any advice would be much appreciated.
