    Cable Buddy Lubrication System

I've got a 1994 Ski Nautique and the steering cables are progressively becoming more and more stiff. This is a little frustrating as the cables are only 2 years old.

Does anybody have any experience with the Cable Buddy System by Davis? Will their lube insertion nut work on a Teleflex "rack" cable system?

    Thanks.

I've never seen them work and I know people that have tried. Before you do anything else, disconnect the cable from the tiller arm on the rudder and then test the steering. Is it still stiff? If so, the cable is bad. If it's nice and free, then the rudder is binding. If that's the case, take the rudder out and clean all the old grease off the rudder and out of the stuffing box. Re-grease everything and put it back. That has as good chance of fixing your problem.

If you remove the rudder as suggested above go ahead to replace the packing rope while you are at it. Its cheap, easy and will also help.

FWIW - I could not get the Cable Buddy system to work as shown in the instructions. However, I was able to introduce the lube into the cable another way. The lube helped reduce the steering stiffness by quite a bit. The cables now feel almost like new.
