Trailer on Blocks?

How many people put their trailer on blocks when they winterize their boat? I’ve put mine on blocks because that’s pretty much what I have always been taught. But when I look around my storage facility I don’t see a single other boat that has its trailer on blocks. Is this really necessary?

Inside a storage shed with a dirt/gravel floor.

I wouldn't really worry about it. Just check the pressure in the spring.

blocks are good for tires and bearings. if you take your wheels and tires, they can't steal your boat. ( edit... as easily.)


bearing will get a spot if they sit in the same spot. i just move mine around evry few weeks.

With my last boat I told myself I would do it and every Fall, well, then it was Winter and still sitting on the tires. Had that boat/trailer seven years and never had a problem. Thought I would REALLY do it for my new boat, but most say it's not necessary with newer trailers/tires. I am, however, in a position to check the tire pressure regularly and/or move it a quarter-turn if I feel like it.

the wheel bearings will get a 'spot' from sitting. i would still move the boat every few weeks.

You don't have to worry about your radial tires getting flat spots, this was really only a concern with old bias-ply tires. I agree with tryan, move it around a little to get the bearings spinning.

I hate to say it but here in San Diego we just move the boat every couple of weeks to the lake to go skiing year round. :lol:
