First I wish to thank everyone who replied to my previous posts. I will skip the air horn and use a pocket aircan horn. Secondly, I managed to remove the engine cover and center floor panel in 1 piece (the back knobbed pins were difficult to remove- the safety wire attaching them to the screw got all wound up- I tried to remove the screw and practically stripped it- is it supposed to be removable?) Fortunately there was a pad beneath my muffler, so the extra pad floating under the engine was just extra- perhaps from the factory or the previous owner. The engine issues I suspect are due to electrical gremlins. Last night, after changing the oil, I noticed that the tach was reading very high- and it stayed on 3300 when I put the boat on the lift. Today, I started the boat, tapped the tach a few times, and it dropped to 1200- is that where it should be in idle. Then I went out for a little cruise. Several times in the first 10 minutes, the speedometer would drop to 0 even though I was trying to maintain a steady 25mph- the engine would have a slightly irregular RPM - it would give or take 300? Then the speedometer worked normally but I could not go faster than 35MPH. Trying to go faster would only make the engine run rough! I have purchased but not yet installed a fuel filter. I just picked up fresh gas and Seafoam and will put this in shortly to see if this will help ( I always use ethanol free gas). In the sun I cannot tell if the check engine light is on - I do not mind dropping $50 on Amazon for Innova 3149 with the cable to see if there are problems with the TFI or TPS
