hydrogate 210/230

I am going to be helping my friend repair his hydrogate tomorrow. We have to completely remove it. Does anyone know how it is held on? Obviously I can see the screws, but do you simply unscrew them e.g. lag screws? Or are they machine screws with nuts on the inside of the hull? If so kind of tough because it is a 230 with zr409 and hard to get behind the engine.

Thoughts?

What are you repairing? I don't see anything wrong from that picture.
Mine were lag screwed in to the transom. when I took mine off I replaced the lags with machine screws, bolts and washers. You Need to double check to see if the bold holes go all the way through the transom also mine were not square to the transom, the hull floor could also inter fear with washer fitting.
Use sealant designed for underwater use, 5200 if you never want to remove it again, or life calk which is my prefered sealant would be.

Sorry, that was just an example picture. Friend hit some rocks and bent it back...pretty bad from what I hear from him. I will see it tomorrow. Thanks much for the response!

I am still amazed that the very small amout that the gate moves downward has such an effect on boat attitude and wake shape.

I'm amazed he was able to hit rocks with that? I can't imagine how messed up prop/rudder and hull would be!!!!

I think if I ever messed mine up I'd probably just replace it with a trim tab.

One would have to think. I have an FAE on mine and that would obviously be distorted as well. I wish I could find the thread where the member put the trim tabs on his 210 sometime last year.

You know it wasn't that bad. It just bent a little tiny bit, but it did have a bunch of little rocks wedged behind it. We unscrewed it, took it off, and bent it back by hand (yes the material nautique uses is that flimsy) and we got some new plastic washers - because as we all know those are gone or about to break after 5 or 6 years - and we are good to go. The prop, that is another story. I don't have any pics but will be interested to see if that is repairable.
