    2006 210 tower knob issues

I have a 2006 210 with the fct gen 4 ( I think it's the 4th) anyways it's the swooped back one they did on the the last year of the OG 210
Problem is went to fold tower down and one side was fine, the other knob was kinda tight but moving so I worked it back and forth and it started coming off, it came off only problem was the knob unscrewed from the shaft pin Instead of the pin unscrewing with the knob like intended. So now the bolt is in I cannot get tower down, trying to avoid messing up threads and not being able to get knob back on.
I know I cannot be the only one this had happened too. Any suggestions on this would very helpful.

I guess I never realized the know was threaded onto the stud. Always thought it was a knurled/epoxy fitment. From that pic it doesn't look as if there is enough stud sticking out to put 2 nuts on it and use a wrench to back it out. May just have to use vice grips which will most likely ruin the threads, but a replacement can be had.

I did try the two nuts.. And was able to get them on and try and back it out but be because the second jamb nut was so close to the bottom it was wanting to mess up the threads,, and I was worried about it shearing off. But yes I agree and thought in was all one peice.
I did see the new knobs on np but was trying to not have to buy a new one.

Could you unbolt the hinge point(s) and loosen the opposite side knob then just lift/slide the top tower section straight up? Should expose enough thread to get a couple bolts on.

That would probably work, I might end up having to try that

I had this same problem on my 08. Bought in 2013 and the tower had never been folded. As we know stainless steel and aluminium don't get along so the key to keeping this fastener operating correctly is to use a protective barrier such as grease or anti seize. Anyway in my case the pin wasn't seized too bad, some wd40, wait overnight and then work it back and forth with some vice grips, clean the thread up and reinstall the knob with loctite.

Ditto on everything aZ just said. I had same issues and used same solutions.

I'm curious about how you guys got the wd40 up in the threads on the tower knob?

With mine it wasn't so much the thread but the shank of the bolt. Water generally won't travel up into the thread but will get into the gap and potentially wash out the grease on the shank. I just squirted it into the gap albeit a small one, it works its way in.
