    Throttle cable problems

I have a 1995 sport nautique with gt40 engine. Yesterday we had the boat out and as I was pulling a buddy out of the water I felt a pop and then had no throttle. The throttle cable moves on the shift lever but nothing moves on the engine. Is it possible that the throttle cable could snap? It shifts into forward and reverse just fine. Would it be a good idea to change the throttle and shift cable plus the control lever since one has failed and the others wold be prone to do the same?
    Thanks

Yes it likely snapped and you should replace both cables but I would not replace the shift lever unless it is broken.

I've replaced shift and throttle cables on a 30' Pursuit Offshore. It's not a tough project just time consuming to get the right size cable and feed it through. Teleflex makes a pretty good self lubing cable, good luck.

Thanks guys. I replaced the throttle and shift cables. The throttle cable was broke right by the controls. It works good now.
