Do you think this is a major motor failure? GT 40 tapping Sound when cranking. i started my 95 GT 40 for the third boat ride of the season tonight. It ran at idle for about 30 seconds and quit. Tried to start it again, it ran and sounded as if it were running out of gas for about 10 more seconds. Now when I crank it over it won't start or fire and it has a frequent tapping sound while cranking. It seems to have spark, it seems to be getting fuel to the plugs, and fuel pump seems to be pumping, battery cranks motor strong. I think my next move is to pull valve cover any suggestions would be helpful thanks

Is it possible you've got a fair amount of water in the gas? There would have to be a lot to fill up the fuel pump but it's possible.

After more time spent I realized it was not getting fuel so ill sort through that. So I started at the tank and worked my way to the pump. I'm thinking now it's pump relay or the like The second issue is the tapping sound which I believe is coming from the starter when cranking for More than two or three secondsComment

Started at the fuel tank checked the screen changed the ball valve, installed high pressure and low pressure pumps and now running perfectly I'm not sure what the taping noise when cranking for long periods. I guess it doesn't matter because the boat starts instantly and runs and sounds perfect now thanks to allComment
