This may be a stupid question but could one of you guys post up a picture of the data link connector. i accidentally forgot to plug in my knock sensor and of course threw a code when i got to 3500 rpm under load. i ordered a codemate but want to make sure i connect to the proper connector to clear my code.

I don't have picture of my plug, but I would go to Rinda.com and look up your year of your boat. You can also call Rinda. They are extremely helpful.

Well, the Techmate cleared the code, but my boat is still throwing the code 327.. I need to check my wires and make sure it's not just a bad wire.

what year and model boat do you have? on my 03 it is on the top of the motor, on the same side as the perfect pass servo. it will already be plugged up to a link back to the gateway/dash, which you will unplug to access. i may be able to get a pic this afternoon if you still need it?

yes, i agree. time to check for bad wire and/or connector to the sensor ...

obd666, I'm starting to dig into a knock sensor issue I'm having. I am wondering if getting that Codemate would be a good investment. Took boat out first time this year and no issues. Now each time out since, it has been going off. I've found I can reset it by pushing the 'UP' and 'DOWN' arrow buttons beside the 'M' at the same time and hold a few seconds and the code goes away. My issue is that it comes back almost immediately even being at idle. I did some cleaning of the bilge and engine area recently and am wondering if I have a wiring issue now.

yeah, using the up/down buttons only clears it from the dash. if the ecm is still throwing the error code, it will immediately present again on the dash. the code mate will actually clear it from the ecm, but you will have to determine what is causing the code in the first place. did you install a new knock sensor? if so, thats prolly it.

Thanks for the info so far. I'm going to get a Codemate to find out the code it is throwing, reset and see if it comes back. Will be a good investment long term anyway for that little tool

Ok, obd666, so I got the Codemate, reset and cleared the code after determining I had a code 44. It stayed clear running around at idle at night and low speed until I ramped up the rpm's. Not sure exactly what speed it came back. Any thoughts on what to check or what you did to correct code 44. Haven't changed the knock sensor either.

I finally got it. I replaced Both knock sensors, cleared the threads, and I also replaced the pigtail plugs. That fixed it. !!!

so basically, the ecm is having trouble communicating with the knock sensor. in my case, i had installed a new sensor and the threads were gummed up with sealant. once i cleaned them off and cleared the code it was good. if you didn't put in a new sensor, i would confirm proper torque on it and check the wire and connector. if that looks good, then you might try a new knock sensor.

beyond that, you will probably have to test the wire and connector, etc. back to the ecm ...

Update for me, I've found only one knock sensor in my 2004PCM Excalibur. Can someone confirm this engine only has one. The guy with the 216 was confusing me on why one had to be added. At the J1 harness I've got continuity from the knock sensor connector to pin 17. No wire to pin 1 which tells me no knock sensor also. I'm replacing the sensor and connector and clearing the code to hope that takes care of it.

Also, can anyone confirm they've used the '98 Chevy 350 knock sensor part without issue?

Ok, FWIW I'm really confused... I just talked to PCM tech support and they said my engine only has 1 knock sensor. He said it must have been something they were trying in 2004 era because originally they had 2 and now they use 2. I'm now starting to question if the software is a problem but I really hope not!
