    Bilge pump issue

The rear bilge pump on our '15 G23 comes on when it is taken out of lock and randomly even though there is no water in the bilge. I popped it out of the housing and it stopped once then started up again. The second time it still wouldn't stop running. Any suggestions? Do they have internal floats? I think there's just the two bilge pumps. (one by the ballast valves and one under the vdrive.)

It's not a big deal since we normally don't keep the boat in the water but I'm going away for the weekend next weekend. The boat will be going in for it's 25 hour maintenance after the weekend but I figure I'd do it myself if it's an easy fix.

IMO, this is something Nautique got wrong. The pumps do not have floats - they run for a second at a timed interval and check for the presence of water. When found, they will pump out all water until the presence of water is gone (based on resistance I assume). So it sounds like yours is operating normally - and this is somewhat controllable behavior by using the rocker switch under the steering wheel. I'm not sure if that switch still exists in a '15 - but it likely does. It will say something about bilge on it, but basically you can turn off the pumps using this switch. Obviously not what you want if uncovered in rain, etc.

That helps a bit but I think there's still something wrong. I do notice that they come on but the rear one keeps running even though there's no water in the bilge. The front one seems to stop.

Jkallen21 is dead on. I understand why CC thinks this is better than a float, but I do not care for the interval bilge testing approach. But if one is staying on more than a few seconds, and there is no water at bilge on direct inspection, than there is likely a poor wire connection or faulty pump.
