zero off install in 2007 SN196

    Hi All,
I am in the process of ordering zero off for my 2007 ski nautique team edition with a zr6 engine. It was suggested by a "zero off" tech that along with buying the 196 kit I also needed a "round" extension cable to connect to the CANBUS for PCM engines. The CANBUS plug that I have coming off the engine is a four pronged square connector therefore won't match the suggested "round" cable. I have the order on hold until I can confirm exactly what I need to get this system running. The boat originally had zero off but the previous owner pulled it and put pp back in so I know it is compatible. Any help with this would be great, summer is short up in Canada!!!

The ZO wiring harness connects into the Faria Gateway Box under the dash. It does not connect to the engine harness in the engine compartment. It is a simple plug and play into two ports in the Gateway Box using only the "ZO Main Wiring Harness".

      Steps:
      1. Unplug P6 and P2 from the Faria Gateway Box and connect them into C3 and C8 in the ZO Main Wire Harness respectively.
      2. Now connect the C2 and C7 ends of the ZO Main Harness into the Gateway Box ports P6 and P2.

It sounds more difficult than it actually is. It seems to me that someone is confusing the ZO installation itself with the ZO Update Cable which does indeed connect to the PCM Engine Diagnostic Port inside the engine compartment and requires the PCM specific connector.

Thank you H2O! You have cleared the muddy waters! You are correct the install looks pretty straight forward, I wasn't sure why I needed the CANBUS cable but now know it is for updating. Sorry to bug ya with more questions but I assume the ZO comes updated therefore this cable is for future updates when needed. I am still unsure where to connect to the engine with this cable as the CANBUS port on my PCM is a square 4 pronged connector and the two offered from zero off are either round or 6 pronged. I do also have a couple "engine diagnostic ports" but they don't appear to be a match either. Shipping, tax, border fees and our bad exchange rate makes this purchase a killer so I want to get it right the first time. Thanks again!

Sorry to say but the instructions from ZO are difficult to figure out and most dealers are challenged by this installation. It really is easy once you do it. Follow my steps listed above. I doubt that you will ever need the expensive Update Cable. If the ZO Headunit is new it should have the latest software installed. On the Excalibur the Update Cable connects to a wire labeled "diagnostic" that runs along the top of the motor under the plastic shroud towards the alternator end of the engine. I have not done a ZR6 update. Now assumptions: 1. All Team Edition boats use the Faria Gateway Box 2. Your motor is running an EControls ECM ( it will be labeled as such) 3. Some engine ECMs need to be Flashed by PCM in order to communicate with ZO (remove the ECM and send it directly to PCM for this). The good news is this reflash ups the ZR6 from 375 to 390hp as a side benefit!

I am next to positive my ECM has been flashed as the previous owner claimed this and there is (6.0L C7E2 O OFF) written in silver ink on the ECM. I also have a "diagnostic" cable lying in the same position as you mentioned. I am just going to order the system and forget about the extra cable. I have friends at most of the boat dealerships near me so could probably borrow the cable in the future or just order the cable later if needed. Thanks very much for your help, when the system arrives I will follow your instructions and hopefully everything will go smoothly!
