Steering Cable Replacement for 2006 220

I saw Miljack's discussion on replacing the steering cable on 230. Is it the same procedure for a 220. I was told I couldn't pull new cable through and would need to remove the flooring and starboard side.

Also, I need to replace the belly tank guage actuator. Any tips?

Many times the cables are zip tied/secured so it's not as easy as just pulling it through. Not too hard of a job though, few hours.

Well. I just wrote a long how to, that was erased. So, this will be short.

I replace my cable in my 2007 220.

The key is to cut the zip ties everywhere. There are two hiding under the helm where the cable runs and few under center floor section.

You need to remove the floor and, bow seat and carpeted wallboard under the bow seat to gain access to the channel where the cable is running. There is a zip tie down in that channel.

Once you cut the zip ties, follow all the other instructions. They are all the same.

Cover the greasy old cable with plastic to protect your interior.

One other thing, you don't need to unbolt the steering cable bracket with 4 bolts on it. The cable slides through the guide tube.

Pm me if you get stuck.

Here is the tool I made to cut the zip ties I couldn't reach

Yep post above is right on, one other thing to check if your boat has a factory installed heater setup. CC "T's" the hoses behind the coaming pad beneath the throttle/shifter in the 230. If you don't remove the coaming pad, you'll shred the heater tubes when pulling the cable.
