GT-40 Vibration Starting at 1700 rpm

The GT-40 in my 1998 SN seems to run as usual at idle (710 rpm), but accelerating to 1700, and then on to 2100+ rpm, there is a very noticeable vibration. Increasing to 3000 rpm lessens the vibration somewhat, but I can still feel it. Any ideas on where to start to solve this? This is in the driveway with water connected to the intake. Hesitant to take it to the lake right now. Thanks.

My first thought is prop. Do you have a spare you can throw on to check?

Edit: You are reving the engine hooked up to a hose in the driveway? I dont think doing that is a good thing, you may not be getting enough water through the hose. If this is the case I would take it to the lake and see if its still happening.

Are you in gear when you are reving it? Did you notice the vibration last time it was in the water? If you are turning the driveshaft when you are doing this you should be spraying water on the cutlass bearing (driveshaft strut bushing under the boat).

The boat is not in gear. I have an extension to the intake hose running into an extra large bucket with plenty of water, so the water intake is not the problem. I am wondering if I should start disconnecting spark plug wires on-by-one to see if one is not firing.

Thanks. That link provides a lot of information. Maybe it is time for a new cap, rotor, and spark plug wires.
