    Tire for Boatmate with G23

I have a G23 on a Boatmate trailer with the 215/65 R14 Load Range D tires. I'm thinking about going to 225/65 R14 Load Range E tires. With the extra weight I'm carrying I just feel like I pushing the limit on my tires. These tires will be about 0.6 inch taller and 0.4 inch wider. It looks like they will fit without causing any problems. Has anyone done this or know of any issues I might have?

I e-mailed Boatmate and found the axles are rated at 4200# each so the tires are not my weakest point. Also I can go up to the 15" rim. The question is will the higher load rating save on tire wear and out weigh the cost of the upgrade (new rims)? My guess is no. Thoughts? The good new is I'm within the limit on the axles. 8400# less 6400# loaded boat less 1300# Trailer leaves 700#

Does anyone else out there have the Boatmate with the 215/75 R14 Load Range D tires or did I get the only one of these they made? It's a real pain that they would produce a product with a high wear part that's hard to get. I ordered one from e-trailer on Tue evening and the shipment status is still pending.

For what it's worth, I switched to Load Star range D tires a few years ago and i have been very happy with them. The size is a 225/75 R15. Max load @ 65 psi is 2540 pounds. I'm not towing a G series boat, but wanted better tires for my setup.

          Swankster,
I would also do some research to see if the rims you have now will accommodate the higher pressure of the E rated tire. Most E rated tires are max inflation to 80psi. Other than that the E tire will have way less side wall flex as it is 10ply. I may have this confused with what you are asking since not many E rated tires are 14". If E on a 15" I would go that route and sell the 14" set on Craigslist, etc.

I'm going to the 15" and the 225/75 D load, but I'm going to wait until next year as I can probably get another year on the tires I have. Unless someone wants my 14" rims.
