    Ballast tank won't drain

Starboard ballast tank is full of water, and the pump will not run to pump out. I replaced the relay, removed the impeller to see if it would run. Also the gauge is not working...would this be a bad sender? If it matters, the light flashes when selected to pump out. Boat is a '06 226. Thanks in advance.

When you have the button pressed to drain the tank, go back to the pump and check for power. If you have power at the pump, could possibly be a bad pump. Also check the breaker button for that pump on your battery selector box. Could have tripped a breaker.

If the gauge is not working, and showing empty, the pumps will fill, but not empty. Try a jumper wire to test, it will read full and should pump out if all else is working correctly

If the pump has power and still not draining, try inspecting the impeller. The rubber impellers wear out and are replaceable.

I had an issue like that. I started filling again and then immediately switched to emptying the tank. If the impeller starts moving it may be more likely to reverse and dump ballast out. Hope that helps!

So I have a 2006 Sv 211 had this problem today. I pulled the floor and checked the sender. The sender was not bent and the float was at the top. The light on the key pad comes on and blinks like it is supposed to when it is empty. The gauge shows empty even when full. I was able to drain the tank by hooking up power from the starboard pump to it and it drained fine so there is nothing wrong with the pump. It would have to be the sender wouldn’t it or could it be the relay by the battery box?

Here’s a very detailed guide written by another member. This is from my mobile so it may not work. If not, search for “Details of Ballast System in 2006 SV211”

Mine was definitely the sender after doing all the testing shown in the threads mentioned. They were all very helpful and made it easy to isolate. Thanks!!! Ordered a new sender but also like the idea of getting rid to the senders and bypassing the run dry box. Only issue with that is as near as I can tell the gauges will then always read full. Thinking of a way to put a sight glass on my belly tank since it is black and you cant see the water level.

Just time the pump til full , and split that for half full . No mods needed. You shouldn’t need ballast tanks adjusted at 1/4 intervals.
