    plastic covers below boarding platform.

Can someome tell me if the plastic covers below boarding platform that cover the lifting points serve any purpose, should they be fitted? On my 1995 SN they are removed although I found them in the glove compartment. When Dubai Ski Club took delivery of our 2006 Air Nautique 210 the covers were not supplied although the holes were drilled for them, two of the holes were drilled right through the hull and had to be plugged. Should we be chasing CC for the covers???

RE: plastic covers below boarding platform.

I would definately get them. They help prevent the water from splashing up onto the transom. Get them!

      DWSA,

As I understand it, the black plastic cups you refer to are there as a safety feature. They
are supposed to help mimize the amount of exaust fumes that can get above the platform.

why not design a platform that sits flush with the transom and do away with the covers?

The covers allow you to access the rear lifting rings.

Because of the lifting rings on these boats. With the euro-tail there was not a good way to put a traditional lifting ring on the stearn. Instead they have two eye rings, just below the platform. My 2001 Super Air has the same thing. There is a a cutout in the platform so you can get a harness onto the rings without removing the platform. However, the cutouts give rise to liability for exhaust fumes, and so the plastic cups.

If you check out the 90 SNs, you'll notice that the original platforms were slatted with lots of air gaps. A plastic shiled was added underneath the platform to cover all the slats and limit the exhaust liability.

              Regards, BKH

Yes get the covers, and the cut outs on the platform help as a boarding grab hole for your hands.

I installed my own "grab handles" to my platform. Sure makes it easier to get back into the boat.

darrel, is the last teak piece reinforced? seem like if somebody big lifted themselves by the "grab handle" they could crack them, just curious how they have held up.
                    I don\'t care.

Darrel, I like the craftmanship. Just curious. Why do you need handles to get back in the boat?
We just push ourselves up the same way you would climbing out the side of a swimming pool. In fact,
it's easier than a swimming pool because the platform is at water level, and the skier has on a life vest
which provides buoyancy and pop out of the water. You're not the only person I've heard endorse
handles, I just don't get it personally. Thoughts? BKH

handles are nice when the boat is drifting past you.

PLBC, its very solid, i did the same thing to my 93SN and it was solid til the day i sold it.
Jeepn is right, eaiser to grab on when floating by, we boat on the Colorado River so there's always a current to deal with.
BKH, Hard to explain...its kind like rock climbing without finger holds, its soo much eaiser to climb with something to grip. If you had the oportunity to try you would notice a significant difference.

The rear handles are great. Can you explain how it is done? Do you cut the existing platform or add more length on to it?

                            Thanks

you would cut out the diameter so the bottom cup fits snug to the platform & could add sealant around the joint.
