Oil guys I need help!

No I would not recommend that oil it must meet the SM specification according the manual that I looked at. I would run a 15-40 oil that meets the
SM specification. Hope this helps. The 5.3 engine does not have a flat tappet camshaft so the modern oils are what is called for. Unlike running modern oils in a older engine with a flat tappet cam shaft. Running the modern oils in the older engines may shorten the life of the cam shaft.

The OP stated he has the EX330 engine, not the GT40. He doesn't have flat tappet cams and does not need a high zinc oil. Shell Rotella T6 5-40 would be a good choice and is readily available. I would just run the conventional Rotella T 15-40 and keep up with the oil changes.

I did not look at your year specific motor requirements. I am going to go with your owners manual recommends 40w non synthetic. If that is what it recommends that is what you need to run. As already suggested you need a high zink content oil. Valvoline VR-1 makes a high zink content oil in standard and synthetic. These oils are not typically available at general parts stores. You may need to go to a shop that has high performances interest or have a generic shop order the oil you want. I run Moble-1 in all of my modern vehicles. My boat gets Valvoline VR-1 40w not synthetic as recommended. What you want to run and what your boat motor needs may not be the same.

If your motor has been running standard oil it is best to stick with that. Oil has different weights as most are aware. Oil weights cause different wear patterns such as sand paper has different wear patterns. Also bearing gaps need a specific weight oil to fill the gap (oil pressure) This is designed into the motor. In a used motor switching to a synthetic and specifically of a lower viscosity will lower your oil pressure. This could also be a problem as the motor is designed to run with a specific amount of oil pressure. For these reasons my GT-40 runs Valvoline VR-1 and it is hard to find, I order it.

I ran straight 40wt VR-1 in my old boat with the GT40. It is available on Amazon.

But I am certain the EX330 has roller rocker cams and does not have the Zinc requirement.

The oil you are looking for needs to have a SM API rating. You can run a synthetic 10-40 or 15-50 it will not matter. I run Amsoil in all my engines and will continue to do so. I do not agree with PCM's recommendation for not running synthetic. You let a boat sit for days or weeks on end the put it in the water and run the HLLL out of it. Oil is cheap buy the best you can., Enjoy your boat. You do not have to run a diesel oil in your motor because it does not have a flat tappet camshaft.

I use rotella but if your stuck on synthetic I would go amsoil

For a different twist in advanced engine oil protection, go to www.LElubricants.com and look at 8700 or 8800 Monolec Engine Oil, 15W-40. This has the most wear protection and robust additive pkg of any engine oil; not available for retail as it's an industrial "heavy duty" product designed for end-users.

For what these boat cost and how hard we run the engines, I would recommend Amsoil. They have a good warranty. I have been running it for over 25 years.
