Engine cutting out and won't restart

2005 Ski Nautique 196, PCM343. We ski most Sunday's. The boat will run fine all morning, and then we will stop for a couple of hours for lunch. After lunch the motor will start and then cut out after less than 400 yards of skiing. This happens every Sunday. After a couple of hours the motor will start again and run fine. This last Sunday we noticed that after the motor had cut that the FCC was very hot. We then cooled the FCC down with a wet cloth and the motor immediately started and ran perfectly. Any ideas???

Seems like there might be an issue with the high pressure fuel pump inside the FCC. I'm no expert, but I had to change both of my fuel pumps last summer, came to that conclusion after a bit of hunting around for electrical issues (relays and such). Boat has been running great all this summer (knock on wood).

Unless it's been repowered probably an Excalibur 330. You need to check both fuel pumps and relays for each pump. You may try taking the Low pressure pump off and clean and inspect the intake screen. Have you inspected the dist cap also, the Excal tends to burn up caps faster then average.

Thanks to both DLafont and Quinner for your responses. My mistake - it is a Exc330. Will start with filters on both pumps and then check relays and dist cap this weekend. If problem still there then onto the pumps - will revert. Thanks again,
