    Belts on SAN230 - 2014

Can anyone give some insight into or experience with belts on the 230? I have the 409 engine. I have had mine go bad pretty quickly (when new they started making a wining noise within 20 hours). And that same issue seems to be happening pretty quickly in general over the first 150 hours on the engine. In general, do folks change theirs out every 50 hours? Have others had similar problems before 50 hours? Thinking it may just be an alignment issue, but figured the dealer would be aware of that when i had them replace and explained the issue, but maybe i shouldn't be assuming. Thx

Do you have belt dust all over the inside of your engine compartment?? Are your pulleys rusted? For reference most folks will never have to replace the belt under normal conditions.

My boat ('08 230/ZR6) now has ~400 hours on the original belt. I would say something is wrong with the alignment or one of your pulleys. Have your dealer check it out, did they replace the belts under warranty?

Thanks for the input! No dust at all, and I'm pretty sure pulleys are not rusted. I will go down the alignment path.

PCM engines use a single serpentine belt to drive the engine water circulation pump, sea-water pump and the alternator. You mentioned beltS in your post. Do you have more than one?

Unlikely it is an alignment issue with a serpentine belt. Have you looked at your idler pulley or the belt tensioner pulley? Likely it is one of those that is failing. Perhaps the dealer installed the replacement belt incorrectly. That has been known to happen.

The belt you want for the ZR490/ZR450 is BELT #: R066033. Look at your belt for the correct part number.

the insides of the pulleys may need to be polished, they may have a burr somewhere.

This happens sometimes on new boats, and I've seen in. Have your dealer inspect the inside groove of the pulley, perhaps call PCM yourself.

I had the same issue w a 343. Ended up replacing tensioner and pulley on tensioner to have the same thing happen, another lost belt. If you have belt dust on front of the engine it's likely like Pax says a rusted pulley. Ended up having to clean the alternator pulley on ours.
