Please Help With Tune Up !

Just bought a 1982 sn 2001 w/ Ford 351. What autolite plugs are for me , 14mm or 18mm ? My velvet drive tranny - Is there a screen to clean on an 82 ? I can't find it. Also I cant find the water filter screen ? Maybe my 1982 doesn't have these two screens. Thanks for the help. Dan

Dan, download the manual for PCM Fords. It covers lots of important information. Napa also has replacement/tuneup part information for the PCM 351s, so they can also look it up. I don't know about the transmission or fuel filters/seperators on the early SN2001s. Ask the guys at ccfan, they seem to know everything about these old boats.

The trans screen is in the fitting on the return line from trans cooler. To get to it you have to drain the fluid, remove the hose and unscrew the fitting from the trans. Not easy to get at either. The fuel/water separator filter will probably be a black can mounted on the stringer, passenger side at the front of the engine compartment, unless some one has changed to a newer screw on type. If by water filter you are talking about raw water not fuel it will be between the thru hull pickup and the water pump. Mine is located at the rear of the engine compartment on the driver side. Not all ye olde boates have them.
